Johnston Imports was established in 2003 after Directors Matt & Tracey Johnston had travelled the world and discovered a love for fine furnishings and wanted to make them available in New Zealand. The business has grown considerably over the years and today we are proudly the New Zealand importers and distributors for Halo Est, Artwood, Spirit of the Nomad and Bleu Nature among other brands with showrooms and distribution centres in both Auckland and Christchurch.

Artwood: Swedish Design for Homes with Personality

Artwood began in 1969, when childhood friends Ingemar Johanson and Lars Eliasson started making furniture in a barn in Härryda, outside Gothenburg. They wanted to create lasting furniture that would improve the look and feel of people’s homes. Today Artwood is a family-owned company with a global presence, and it still builds every piece around that idea of quality.

Artwood’s roots are in Swedish design tradition, with inspiration drawn from around the world. Much of the collection is the brand’s own design, produced in different countries, and it covers a wide range of styles from modern and minimalist to classic and rustic. The aim is furniture that ages well and gives a room character. Each piece is made with care for the environment and for the people who craft it.

The range spans indoor and outdoor furniture, lighting, soft furnishings and accessories, made from materials such as wood, metal and textiles. The Halo Group was founded by Major Philip Oulton as Halo Antiques in 1976. Major Oulton loved fine furniture and had an eye for attractive antique pieces. His love of beautiful furnishings has now been passed onto his grandchildren Ollie, Oscar and Poppy. The family tradition of supplying high quality, beautiful furniture inspired by the company’s British heritage continues and it is now manufactured around the world.
